Re: female bassists/Criss Smurfy

Rush, Primus, Nomeansno, the Police, Level 42

I guess that these aren't the "average" bassist/singers. I don't know how
Geddy Lee plays his basslines let alone sing Peart's hideous lyrics at
the same time. Les Claypool seems to be able to lock in pretty tight with
the drums while singing. Nomeansno - well clawman seems up to the task
of stretching his fingers over about 6 frets and four strings and handling
vocals. I've never seen a guy play so much without moving his hand (next
to Danny Partridge :) And then there is Sting...pretty classy lines
(at least with the police.) Mark King - slap-pop master and vocalist.

Don't know why I'm responding to this. I was just thinking that most
of the bassist/vocalists I know can play extremely complex lines, hold
the rhythm _down_ AND sing at the same time. No compromises anywhere.
Most of these guys are widely regarded as the best _rock_ bassists around,
yet in the polls there is never any mention of their double-duty as
vocalists.

Dave is the rhythm guitarist, although he plays a little bass - like on
"Claire". Tim Vesley is the bassist and he is VERY GOOD.

whatever - I think all the fun is on alt.fan.bass :)

do any of the above guys play with a pick?
