campfire songs

a CD ep you all should pick up...

Trike's new self-titled CD, on their own label campfire. six songs in the
pop/power pop/sweet pop/boy-girl pop vein. you know?

produced and mixed by mario bradet and patrick pentland this may.

trike - Melanie Rusinak, voice guitar
         Todd Calder, voice guitar
         Gerard Watters, drums
         Scott Tappen, bass

they've all been in a tonne of bands you all should know like the
Quahogs, Chaz Rules, Cool Blue Halo, Tag (now jale), and many bad
hardcore bands.

tracks one, four, and six ("rocket", "gun", and "girlwater")
are sung by melanie. i guess this is lame to say but if you like the way
the women in jale sing, you'll probably like mel's voice on cd.
live, i wasn't sure what the fuss was about, but on cd, it's amazing.
really beautiful. track one sounds like a mix between something sugar
would play and according to roderick "time after time" by cyndi lauper.
this is a good thing. her voice actually reminds me of julie claytor from
eric's trip a lot, like on songs like "my chest is empty" and "evie".

i'm such a sucker for "ya-ya's" and "oooohs" and she does some great
"ooohs" in "gun".

track two ("pipe") three ("scrabble") and five ("bozo") are todd singing
lead with mel backing him up. it's all catchy sometimes crunchy guitar
noisy pop. i'm not sure who to compare todd to, it's kind of a soft guy
voice, not whispery soft like rick white, but not harsh or loud in any
way.

i think the best way to find out how to get this EP (it's really worth
it) is to write:

or

i think this is the first thing outside of sloan patrick has been
involved with, like as far as producing and stuff. so buy it even for the
sloan connection ;) even though it's awesome just on its own merits. i
got my copy yesterday afternoon and i think i've listened to it 20 times.
i'm not kidding.
