spotted this The Great Pacific Ocean review
in the Calgary Herald by Brooker Buckingham:
(reproduced w/out permission, of course)

Unlike any other music centre in Canada, the Halifax
music scene has been unabashedly pop-based these
past few years. Bands like Sloan, Superfriendz and
Thrush Hermit gas up Anglo-pop melodies with the
guitar crunch of new wave and punk, crafting the odd
hummable moment....

While their mentors Sloan were drowning in pop
pretension on their last release, the teenaged Hermits
were aping KISS riffs and cooing like Teenage Fanclub....

There isn't anything you haven't heard before, but
the boys are still young. When their voices break,
experience may set their course. Rating: B-
