Subject: Wal-Mart not carrying Nirvana album
Date: Thu, 23 Sep 93 14:17:29 PDT

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (UPI) -- Retail giant Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said
Thursday it has decided not to carry grunge-rock band's Nirvana's new
album because of concerns it might clash with some customer's moral
standards. [....]
A spokesman for the chain said that the decision not to carry the CD
reflects Wal-Mart's policy of being ``sensitive to the moral standards
our customers have.'' Each Wal-Mart carries about 3,500 CD titles.
The spokesman also noted that Wal-Mart's customers tend to prefer
country-and-western titles. ``They tend to lean more heavily towards
Garth Brooks and Vince Gill,'' he said [...]
Wal-Mart, of Bentonville, Ark., is the nation's No. 1 retailer with
1992 sales of $55.5 billion. Most of its stores are located outside
major urban areas.
