SLOAN trivia

I know that this has probably ALREADY been asked, but I must risk being
annoying to satisfy my curiosity...  was there a "reason" that the band
chose the name "Sloan" ?  And, if so, what was it?

On a side note...  to the individual who's doing the SLOAN Lyrics...  (Scott?)
I think there's a missing word in "LEFT OF CENTER":

Instead of:

My older brother's puching forty
My kid sister's only nine

It sounds like:

My older brother's puching forty
My YOUNG kid sister's only nine
